Week 2 Finish

It is my second week in Ohio and I have 2 more finished.

Once again my mom was the quilt top holder but behind them this time. Not only have I been sewing but shopping too! A peak at what I have to work on when I get home.

I have specific ideas for most of this. And finally I just had to buy some for the new grand baby! Since I am very Irish and of course the baby is too, I found some really fun Fairies. When I was in Ireland a few years back we visited the fairy tree so I always think of Ireland when I see pretty little Fairies. My little girl will have an Irish Fairy quilt.

I am so excited to get going on this one when I get home.

Double Duty

Here's my Mom! I am up in Ohio visiting and helping out. We just had a big party to celebrate her 90th birthday. My mom sewed everything from the drapes on the windows to our swimsuits when we were growing up. She began a drapery business when my dad retired and they did that for 25 years. She finally retired at 82! She is blind now and is always anxious to hear what I am working on. Lucky for me, she still has her sewing machine here and some basic supplies. By day I am mom's helper and by night I am the crazy sewing girl. My nephews girlfriend works for Joann fabrics and brought me a little jelly roll. here it is! I was still on the rail fence wavelength from last week. I had leftover white here and ready or not, it all went together this week.

I brought this remaining fabric of the state flowers and quick put together another one of Amanda Jean's patterns, Fair and square. Not the best picture but very fun. the white makes those flowers pop out! I have just over a week left here and have another project ready to cut tonight and another after that. I am going for easy things that I can do late at night to get my sewing "fix".  Ohio has some wonderful quilt shops. I have escaped a few times and might have to sneak away again. Thanks Mom for all the years of listening and watching you sew. I remember pulling out little fabric scraps from the trash can and hand sewing things for my little troll dolls. And I wonder why I love scrap quilts so much! Ha!

Many Finishes

Well, this has been a week of machine quilting. I have been working like crazy and gotten 7 quilted. One I gave away and didn't even get a picture. I finished up the ocean theme quilt for my team teacher and put waves and wavy lines on it to look like the ocean. I really like how it turned out. I went on to make her a few burp cloths to match. I also found some flannel with a whale on it and made a blanket and another pair of burp cloths. I am pleased with how they turned out.

I quilted up this purple one that has been in my stash for a long time with no borders. I am happy it is off the pile.

My sewing buddies decided to each make  a star block all incorporating some of the same gray fabric in each one. then, we would submit them all together for the Houston quilt festival. The astronaut that did a star block in space was asking for other star blocks. If yours is chosen they will all be put together with hers. so, here is what I cam up with. not very exciting but nice all the same. It goes well with the others in the stack. All the blocks used the gray background in the block somehow. Now, I wish I had used the gray on the star part but Oh well.

I have sandwiched together another 3 quilts, cut out a dress to run through the pleater to smock and cut out and laid out another lap size quilt of the leftover ocean scraps. I have gotten lots done before I head to ohio to see family this week. I finished another quilt and burp cloth for my nephew in Ohio Who is having a boy in July.

Quilted up!

Let's keep the stack going. I have plenty more! Oh my this is so much fun.

Rail Fence Done

Thank you Amanda Jean (from Crazy Mom Quilts) for pushing me out of my comfort zone.  She posted an awesome tutorial on the rail fence quilt. I decided to try a BOY quilt to donate. I have 3 girls and a grandaughter so this was a big step for me. When I first started putting it together I thought it would not even be good enough for donation but I am excited to see the finish. I think I really like it.
I used green and brown. I used all pieces from scraps even the back is a soft flannel with pine cones on. It sort of has a camo look without being camo. I quilted it in a verigated thread and that just made the whole thing pop. It really looks much better in person.

I used up a nice chunk of stash and am happy to mail it off. It was a good summer day!
