It has been awhile since I posted but that does not mean I have not been busy sewing. I quilted up the Christmas top that I showed earlier and carefully wrapped it up and popped it in the storage space for a new addition to the family room this year at Christmas!!

I purchased some yummy fabric at the quilt show in November and have been trying to decide what to do with it. I had 20 fat quarters that I just love.Well, I looked all over for several months and decided to just make some bricks and put them together. so I carefully cut the 20 fat quarters into lovely pieces. As I laid them out, no matter how I worked it, the look was way too busy. Now what. My gorgeous fabric cut up and nothing to do. I cut some solid pieces to try and tone it down, give the eye a resting spot but I didn't like that either. I finally put 4 together with a white strip to make a big square and I can twist them and turn them as I please. I am getting the pieces slowly sewn but it is scary!!
While I was stewing about the other bricks I cut and sewed a bunch of strips to make another favorite from a magazine from years ago. the stacks are done so now it is time to get them together.
I also have been cutting some hexi's! I made a small holder to take with me on my trip in a few weeks to hold all my sewing goodies. hmm. I am wondering if a ziploc bag might be better.
Nothing terribly exciting right now but a lot of stuff getting done. Well, it is Friday night and I am home tonight and can spend the evening in the sewing room. Yay!!

  3. A Ziploc might have been easier, but your kit is so much more stylish. You are also making great progress on your other projects, and I love how you quilted your Christmas quilt.

  4. Can't wait to see your finished quilts! It might be scary now but it will all work out in the end! The white looks great on with the block that you showed!

  5. I love your little hexi bag you made!! Perfect size to tuck into a purse or travel bag!!

  6. I like your solution to your problem with busy fabrics. Should turn out great. I had that happen with my last beach quilt, and I changed out fabrics for a long time before I got it right.

  7. Lots of cutting for ya,but it is all coming together nicely. Hope you enjoyed yourself sewing yesterday night!

  8. Hi, Dona! Love your little hexi workbag, and you've got lots of pretty fabrics there. If you're still not happy with your blocks quilt, you might take a look at this one - - - - - - it's another alternative to dealing with lots of busy fabrics, and it uses bricks! PS I wanted to send you a copy of the PDF for my tutorial, but unfortunately you're a no-reply blogger. If you'll email me at salliesue (at) clearwire (dot) net, I'll send it to you!

    Whoop whoop!!

  9. Ooh, I hope the bricks come out okay. I hate cutting into something precious and then discovering it doesn't work! And I love you hexie bag!
