Summer, Almost

Well, the sock monkey quilt is finished and looks awesome! My daughter did most of the work and Momma is so happy she has a sewing girl in the bunch. She is learning and I hope likes it! She did a great job.

We also put together a banner with the little boys name to hang at the shower and maybe in the nursery. It was pretty fun and a learning experience for us both!
I have had several things in progress and I will show just a few.
The borders are not on yet but this was a Kaffee Fassett jelly roll that I have been hanging on to for over a year. I love it and finally had enough courage to cut into and CHOOSE a design. It still needs the borders but I love it already. I just love the brights.
This will be a baby quilt. Making it up as I go. I had some bright squares and a friend had done one like this and so I am trying to remember and put it together. I will show the finished later.

School Days

Well, I bought some great fabric on sale on our weekend away and I have already put it ot good use. My old school bag that I carry my things in was just shredding. So I found some fun prequilted fabric on super sale on our weekend. I wanted the same size bag so I measured the one I had, looked at the construction and just copied what already worked for me. My husband cut up an old sign and I covered it with fabric for a tough hard bottom to the bag. I love it and feel good walking out in the morning with something new and fresh at the end of the year!
I even made a small bag with the scraps. I made a purse too. My machine is back from repair so I can get quilting on some of the quilts that are ready to go. Until next time....

Busy Weeks!

Last weekend 7 of us gathered in Byrne Texas and had a weekend of fun and sewing. These are my sewing buddies and we have shared the fun and joy of sewing for many years. Kathy and I are the original group starters and we have been sewing friends for over 30 years. How blessed I am ! We went to the Byrne quilt show and festival and saw some beautiful quilts hanging in the center of town. We were all inspired in many ways. We stayed up until way past midnight sewing and having fun. Thanks ladies for a wonderful weekend.

I took a stack of 5 inch squares and just started sewing them together. There is something very fun and therapeutic about just sewing squares together. here is my final result. It is lap size but I think I may add a few more rows.
I also had this one almost finished and it is one of my favorites. I have made it before and I already have some fabrics out to make another one. It is fast and fun, and I love that! The tutorial is here.

I am currently working on 3 different things and have the blocks completed for 3 more small quilts and a new school bag. but those are not finished. I was also away for a few days this week because my youngest daughter graduated form Texas State University. So proud of my girls. Love them!
Happy sewing!

Friday finish!

I just could not stop myself!! I was having too much fun with the Easter baskets and I made one more for my grandbaby's cousin. They were so much fun to make.
Last weeks pictures did not show a close up, so here is one of the other baskets.
I finally finished the top of the quilt that gave me so much trouble. I love the fabric but the original brick quilt was too busy. The top is done and I think after  it is quilted I will get a better picture in better light. They always look so much better after quilting.
I quickly made up a neutral seat cover for my old high chair. Not bad for a night of sewing and some old scraps left in a drawer that I would Never quilt with. The stripes don't match but it will get mighty dirty, washed lot and eventually thrown away I am sure . It will work for now.
My daughter wanted to make a sock monkey quilt for one of her husbands cousins so we ordered this fun fabric and I have cut it and it's ready for her to start sewing. it is so cute and will make a really fun one!

It is midnight and I think my time is up.

Easter Fun!

My children are going to think I am crazy! It all started with the idea of making an Easter Basket for my sweet little grand daughter. I found this awesome tutorial here at Positively Splendid! And that it is, just Splendid. I love it. I loved it so much I decided to make all of the kids an Easter Basket. I embroidered their names on too. My son in law got the Texas chili cook off fabric and no name. I am gong to hide the Sunday morning and make them look for them. You are never too old for some old fashioned FUN! I am so excited about how they turned out.
Her name is a little too high, live and learn.
So FUN! I got a little excited and decided to make another type , a little easier. this one for my husband and me!
One other thing, I finished a dress for my daughter. She did the smocking and I did the dress cutting, pleating and construction. Nice joint effort. Turned out just lovely!
One last fun thing. My husband built me an owl house for Christmas and we hung it in January. well, it is now inhabited by Mr. AND Mrs. Hootie! they are so fun to watch. Happy Easter everyone.
One last picture of my beautiful daughter and her husband wrapped in one of my quilts out in a field of Bluebonnets. It was a cool day, and with this mamma, there's always a quilt.

Spring!

It is that time of year again! Spring. For the last 2 years I have donated a quilt to a spring church auction and this year it will be 2! I just love both quilts but I especially like the string quilt. I am very fond of that pattern and have made several. It is just one of those quilts that always looks good.

The second one is very nice but it was also very sunny and the picture was not too good. It is also a bigger quilt than my husbands arms can reach! I guess i need 2 people to hold it up. I hope the quilts will earn the church a little money. I thank God for the gift of being able to sew so I think I should share.

Another teacher at school had twin boys and here is the latest on the baby quilt list. they are similar but just a little different.
I have a wonderful Picture of my sweet daughter in the bluebonnets wrapped in her quilt with her husband but I can't get it to load. maybe tomorrow.

Back Home

I helped my daughter put this together several months ago and with a new baby she really needed help finishing it. So, I quilted it up and put the binding on. She will be giving this one away real soon.
I have been off the internet grid recently due to some wonderful traveling. We went to Austria with family and I had my first ski lesson ever. I will post a picture soon but we were gone for 2 weeks and it was an amazing trip but now I am back to the sewing machine and that is a wonderful ride as well.
