This has been a long project. the quilt is finished with the matching pillows. I used up some more scraps and made some pillowcases with the lavender trim. She now has a whole set. I sure hope she likes it.
I wanted to experiment with making some bags for travel so here is my first trial. I think I might make a few changes next time. The inside of the bag is lined with leftover drapery block out lining scraps. It sees somewhat waterproof. I have used it before and it works quite well.
I am off from school for 2 weeks and looking forward to getting some serious sew time in. Yippee!!!

Tis the Season
Oh, My, Christmas will be here before I know it and I should be shopping and wrapping, but,,, I am sewing. I just can't help it! I was inspired By Amanda Jean and her Book Sunday Morning Quilts. I had so many leftovers from quilts that were calling me so I tried the slab technique from her book and I love it. I was going to put the slabs together to make one big one, just like hers but I decided to frame each one. My daughter saw some like this on the internet and loved them so it just might be hers for Christmas. It needs to be quilted but maybe that is what Christmas Eve is for, Ha!
I bought some baby boy fabric in Ohio this summer and it was calling to me so I made up this quick little boy quilt to have on hand and it is ready to be quilted! the blues and browns are so much prettier than the picture.
I also am putting together a small leftover flannel blanket to keep at home for the grandbaby but it's not done yet and I have all the pieces for another little boy quilt in the works. Oh My, I just really love to sew.
And finally, the biggest job right now. I am quilting up the queen size quilt I am giving to my middle daughter. I am getting puckers on the back and having some struggles but I am sure it will turn out just fine. I always seem to get a tuck or two on the back, very frustrating.

My Butterball
I just couldn't resist. My daughter has requested that no pictures of the baby be posted on the internet but she made her a pretty cute hat for Thanksgiving and then stitched down a turkey onto a onesie. she looked just adorable. You can't really see her so I hope I can get away with showing you some of my daughters clever work. So very fun! Gobble Gobble!!

Thankful Friday
What a wonderful Thanksgiving it was! I just love my family and that new little baby girl. It was so fun to spend time with them and then go sew until the wee hours since I had no school these past few days. I got a few things done and I am happy with the results. My Christmas quilt is finished and already had some serious snuggles while watching a movie yesterday. The kids approve.
I also quilted up this fun lap quilt. I think this might be my gift exchange at the staff Christmas party. I bought the fabric at the quilt festival and it was so easy and fun to put together. Overall, I am happy with my 2 finishes this week. Hmm, what is next?

Friday Finishes
I have plenty to list today. I did not have anything done for a few weeks and all of a sudden now ,,,,,they are all done! Yeah!! Seems like I have been working on things but nothing completed. I guess it just all came together at the same time.
I quilted this up the other day and added some scraps for the binding. A friend works at a local free hospital and rocks the babies. I think one of them may have to get this one.
I work during the day so the light at night when I take pictures is not very good. This one has much prettier colors in the light. It is just scraps and rather busy but it is crib size and just lovely. maybe another donation.
I saw this pattern last summer and have been anxious to try it out. I bought the fabric at the quilt show and I love the happy colors. It is twin size and after quilting will rest in my spare bedroom on the twin bed.
This picture is just awful but it is the best I can do on dark dreary days or late nights. It is about 50% Kaffe Fasset fabric and just about jumps up to dance. It is just so bright and colorful. after it is quilted I will have to get a proper picture taken. It is about full size and my husband wants me to add on to make it queen size for our bedroom. Hmmm.
My failed experiment! I tried making coasters and I don't like them. I might try some more but these will get used in my sewing room.
Here is the backside to my pillows from the last post. I think I like the back a little more than the front.
The quilt top is done but needs to be quilted. It is queen size and I hope my daughter likes it. I might get some white pillowcases and add some trim to match. Then she would have a set!!!

Some Fun!
I have a queen size quilt top done and ready to go. It needs to be sandwiched together and quilted. I used the Good Fortune line from Moda fabrics and it will be my homemade Christmas gift for one of my daughters. I liked the fabric so much, I decided to try my hand at improv piecing using the leftover scraps. I have one pillow finished and one in the works. It was quite fun and I am pleased so far with the results. These fun projects just keep me working!

Lots of Work!
It has been a long time since I have posted! Houston Quilt Festival was here a few weeks ago and it was just wonderful, as usual. I bought way too much and had an amazing time. I took 2 classes. The first was about different ways to machine quilt and after quilting about 20 quilts, I realized my hands are not as steady as I think. These new ideas will take some practice. I have 6 quilts sandwiched together and ready to go. Oh, I love to practice. Below are some goodies from quilt show and my practice pile. Yay! The second class was on 7 different ways to use up scraps and make some beautiful blocks. Hmmm. I think I have lots of scraps for that.
I have some new ones in the pile and some tops I previously posted that are ready to go!!! Hurry up Thanksgiving. Looking forward to some sew days!
I also finished quilting up one of my favorites! Thanks, Kelly for the tutorial at My Quilt Infatuation. I think I want to make another.
This one is going to a 4 year old getting ready to have a baby sister!!! I have had several things going in the last 3 weeks so I'll post them all as they are finished. So excited.

Happy Friday! :)
It's the weekend before Halloween and I find myself making a costume again. I have not done that in many years. This time it's for my sweet little grand baby. she will be the sweetest and happiest pumpkin ever! It was fun to make. the green stem on the hat is a bit hard to see but pretty cute. Trick or treat!
My little sweetie is also getting baptized this Sunday. She is wearing a beautiful dress worn by her daddy's family and I made her a bonnet from her great grandmothers handkerchief. She was named Evelyn after her great Grandmother so they have beautiful E's embroidered on the corners of the lace. Someday she can walk down the aisle to be married carrying the hankie of her great grandmother that she was named after. I love the bonnet and it matches the dress perfectly.
And finally, in the quilt category, I had an old bunch of scrap squares I never put together awhile ago. I'll probably add borders and most likely donate it. It was just one of those simple things to sew on a night after a long day at work. No thinking involved. It's Ok.

Weekend Finish
A friend and sewing buddy dropped off some scraps last Tuesday and there was a stack of just beautiful flannel pieces. I just had to do something right away and not waste an inch. I measured and cut strips and then squares and was so happy to only have about half an inch left on each piece! There is no batting, just another layer of flannel on the back. My three girls each had one of these and used them for so long. I think I will keep it here at home for my baby Evelyn!
Once again, the colors are so much brighter and prettier in person. I guess I need a better camera.

Purple fun!
Well, another teacher is having a baby in December and I am ahead of the game! She is doing the baby room in a calming lavender so I ran with it! I am happy with the results.
The lighting is different in the two pictures and we have had rain for several days, so no sunshine to get an accurate picture of the color. It really is quite sweet! I also quilted up the top that had the pictures on the front. I will re-post the top picture but I didn't even get a chance to take a picture before I gave it away!!
It really looked cute quilted up. I used a pretty pink binding. so sad there is no picture.

Sweet Baby Quilt!
I have a teacher at my school expecting her second baby and I decided ,last minute, to make her a sweet little girl quilt. The pictures do not do it justice at all. The colors are soft and pale. I just love pink and green. It quilted up so nice. I used flannel on the back and that just makes it feel yummy. Soft, sweet and welcome baby!

Christmas in October
I have made a few Christmas quilts and given them away so I finally decided to maybe make one for myself. I bought this fabric on vacation this summer In New Mexico. My husband helped choose the fabric. It is the X-block pattern and book, and is super easy. I think it will be much nicer once it is quilted up. Hmmm. I am thinking of people in my life that really might like it. Keep? Give away? Hmm..
I also had these picture panels in an old bag. They were cute scenes with words over each one, intended to be a fabric book. Well, Amanda Jean at Crazy Mom Quilts inspired me with a flower quilt. So, the words came off, the picture was framed with scraps and here it is. It has an old fashioned sweet sense about it. I like it!
Its another late night, Friday night finish. But it feels good!

3 Friday Finishes
Well, I felt stuck a few weeks ago. I just didn't know what to do next. Not enough yardage for one project, not the right colors for another, not enough variety for one and not enough white for another, Sheesh! well, thank goodness those days are over, and I am back in the swing of things. I started with a simple, quick and easy small strip quilt and moved on. Not too crazy about this one, but it got me rolling again. It is a small baby size.
So, overall I got some nice things accomplished!
My sewing friends gathered in MN this weekend and I was unable to join them so I will sew in solidarity with you all! I cut out a Christmas quilt tonight and got started on that. I am sure you will see the Friday finish on that one next week. Cheers my friends and happy sewing.

I have always wanted to do another zig zag quilt and my daughter helped me put these fabrics in order and off I went. I love this one. It is a nice lap size. I got this design from A tutorial at Myquiltinfatuation. Thanks so much. I love it and may have to make another.
I had the blocks done for this one and showed them in an earlier post, but I finally got them put together into this queen size. I am going to the Houston Quilt Festival in a month so I am sure I will find some matching fabric for borders while I am there.

Leftovers!
So I decided to be brave and try my hand with sewing together a "slab" of fabric. In a previous post you can see the blocks I made for my daughter. I am making her a queen size quilt for Christmas and I just love the bright and cheery fabrics. I had plenty of little pieces as you can see. so I put them together using the "slab" method in Amanda Jean's book Sunday Morning Quilts. I love the book and her blog Crazy Mom Quilts.
I am pretty happy with the results. The pieces were pretty small but I have some nice chunks to make some matching pillows for her quilt. I am ready to try this method again, only with pieces that are a bit bigger.

Square Friday finish.
So this Friday is a square finish and a friend finish. I have been slowly working on some blocks for a queen size quilt for Christmas. well, I finally got my squares all finished. Only 88 of them. I think! I just kept forgetting how many I needed and had to keep recounting. I just love the fabrics. I bought them in Ohio this summer in June and have been working on them in between projects. The blocks are now finished so I need to get the top put together,Ah, the next finish. A friend popped in tonight with 19 burp rags pinned together and all I needed to do was sew them! Imagine that, just sew! Well, they got finished and they were as cute as could be. It was a long week at school and I had some very tired nights, so this Friday finish was a tough one. I need to get another project started! Happy sewing. Linking up to Crazy Mom Quilts.

Sedona Sunrise!
I love this quilt, but then again I love most quilts. I bought this fabric this summer in Sedona. I posted a picture earlier. It is the watercolor fabric by Mary Fisher. I Made it up into a lap size quilt and it just smiles at me! I am so happy with how it turned out.
My sister in law requested a queen size quilt for an auction. One that was pretty neutral. I wish the pictures were clearer. The colors look so blah in the picture but they are nice clean tans and blues and beautiful dark greens. I did some serious ripping on this one. I quilted with a cream color thread since the center background is cream but halfway through realized I hated it on the dark green border. So, I ripped out the borders and quilted them in a dark green to match. Ahh, so much better. I wish I had more ideas for the quilting part of it. I just stippled the whole thing because a queen size is tough to maneuver on my machine. But, no worries, my class at quilt festival in November is all about that. Yay!
Some leftover strips made it into the backing just for fun. And what fun it was! Linking up to Crazy Mom Quilts, my favorite place!
